Produced for only a brief period and generally estimated at approximately 400 examples across all metals—most of them cased in yellow gold—the reference occupies a relatively uncommon position within Patek Philippe's mid-century production.

Characterized by its sculpted lugs, stepped bezel, and screw-down caseback (fond vissé), the reference reflects a slightly more purposeful case architecture than many contemporary dress watches while preserving the disciplined proportions associated with the Calatrava tradition. This construction places the model within a small family of early water-resistant Patek Philippe wristwatches that extend the design philosophy established by the Reference 565.

The model is powered by the manually wound Caliber 27SC, a refined movement incorporating sweep center seconds and representing an important development in mid-century wristwatch design as collectors increasingly favored center-seconds displays over subsidiary indications. The caliber's reliability and elegant finishing secured its place among the manufacture's most respected manually wound movements of the period.

Dials of the reference are typically encountered in silvered configurations with applied markers and finely printed minute tracks, though a number of more unusual executions are known, including retailer-signed examples, Breguet numeral variants, and luminous configurations. The present example belongs to this more distinctive luminous family, pairing a silvered dial with applied luminous hour markers and luminous dauphine hands, complemented by an elegant blued central seconds hand that provides subtle visual contrast across the dial.

Condition: Preserved in notably attractive condition, the watch retains strong case geometry with well-defined lugs and a crisp Swiss gold hallmark visible beneath the lower right lug. The dial remains particularly appealing, displaying clear printing, a sharply defined outer minute track, and balanced luminous elements that contribute to the overall clarity and coherence of the design.
