A Note on Vintage Timepieces
WRISTORIAN® uses four editorial periods: Antique, before 1930; Vintage, 1930–1989; Neo-Vintage, 1990–2004; and Modern, 2005–Present.
These categories provide historical context. They do not determine quality, authenticity, originality, durability or suitability for a particular owner. Each timepiece must be judged individually through its design, construction, condition, components, service history, available evidence and intended use.
Authenticity, Originality and Intervention
Every timepiece offered by WRISTORIAN is protected by our Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity. That lifetime commitment is not limited by the 24-hour reporting period that applies to eligible delivery claims.
Authenticity and complete component originality are not the same. An authentic timepiece may contain service replacements, period-correct components, later correct components, restored elements or refinished surfaces. Dial, hands, crown, case, movement, crystal, bracelet and internal components may each have a different history. The applicable listing describes material observations and known interventions based on the evidence reasonably available to WRISTORIAN at the time of publication.
Accuracy and Mechanical Performance
A mechanical watch should not be presumed to provide quartz-level accuracy or contemporary performance merely because it is running properly when observed. Age, construction, prior service, position, temperature, magnetism, environment and normal wear may all affect performance.
WRISTORIAN does not promise or warrant any level of rate, accuracy, amplitude, power reserve, water resistance or future mechanical performance. Any observation or test result stated in a listing is a snapshot recorded under the stated conditions, not a complete mechanical diagnosis or a promise of present or future performance.
Service History and Stewardship
Service history is included only when known or supported by information available to WRISTORIAN. No service history should be inferred when none is stated. The absence of documented history is common in vintage horology, but future maintenance or repair may still be required.
Unless WRISTORIAN expressly agrees otherwise in writing for a specific transaction, no separate WRISTORIAN mechanical or timekeeping warranty is provided. Any warranty or service coverage supplied by a manufacturer, service provider or other third party is governed solely by that provider's own terms.
Ownership therefore includes stewardship: maintaining function, protecting historically significant material, documenting intervention and choosing service in proportion to the individual timepiece.
Water Resistance and Environmental Exposure
Never assume that an antique, vintage or neo-vintage timepiece is water resistant. WRISTORIAN does not guarantee water resistance unless a specific written statement says otherwise. Even a favorable pressure test describes conditions only at the time of testing and cannot guarantee protection after aging, impact, case opening or seal deterioration.

Condition, Measurements and Photographic Reference
Condition descriptions reflect informed professional judgment and are inherently subjective. A timepiece may display wear, patina, prior polishing, replacement components, service intervention, restoration or other characteristics consistent with its history. Measurements and reference details are provided to the best of our knowledge and are approximate unless expressly stated otherwise.
Published images depict the exact timepiece offered and form an important part of its condition record. Photography, lighting, scale, device and display settings may affect appearance, and photographs cannot reveal every internal condition, prior intervention or mechanical concern. Clients should review the complete listing, all images, specifications, condition disclosures, accompaniments and any stated service history before purchasing.

This page provides general guidance about the practical realities of owning and caring for older timepieces. Any item-specific representation is governed by the applicable listing and any express written transaction terms.
