Understanding 'Vintage' Timepieces

A Note on 'Vintage' Timepieces

Timepieces offered by WRISTORIAN® may be antique, vintage, neo-vintage, or modern. While "vintage" can denote a specific era, our offerings span periods both before and after that definition.

Produced before modern tolerances, water-resistance standards, and quartz-level accuracy, these are mechanical objects with histories that require realistic expectations.

Accuracy & Mechanical Performance

Vintage mechanical watches are not guaranteed to perform to modern accuracy standards. Each watch is evaluated prior to listing, but performance may vary due to age, prior servicing, environmental factors, and normal wear. Unless otherwise stated, service history is unknown.

Every watch is wound and observed over a minimum 24-hour period to confirm basic operation and power reserve. Watches unused for extended periods may exhibit reduced running time that improves with subsequent windings. This behavior reflects the nature of aged mechanical systems and does not guarantee future performance.

Service History & Stewardship

The absence of documented service history is common in vintage horology and not a defect. Ownership implies stewardship, and preventive maintenance is an expected part of preserving both function and historical integrity.

Water Resistance & Environmental Exposure

No vintage watch sold by WRISTORIAN is guaranteed water resistant. Case tolerances and seals degrade over time. Exposure to water or moisture should be avoided. WRISTORIAN assumes no responsibility for resulting damage.

Condition, Measurements & Photographic Reference

Condition descriptions reflect informed professional opinion and are inherently subjective. Vintage watches may show wear, patina, or age-related characteristics. Measurements and reference details are provided to the best of our knowledge and are approximate unless stated otherwise.

All images show the exact watch offered and serve as the primary record of condition. Written descriptions provide context, but visual examination remains essential.

Final Consideration
